It is by the forum join date.
Usually, you joined the forums the same day you registered to become a Member, so it is fairly accurate. Only times this doesn't occur so easily, is when the player made a new account. And the time period when solar (the previous owner) made a different site for the server.
For Elite, 2 months are needed.
For Veteran, 5 months are needed.
For Loyal, I have decided for 1 year or 12 months to be needed. So far, only staff have been able to use this rank. It adds a lot of many features to the Veteran rank.
If you joined May 4, you will get Elite July 4.
Then Veteran on October 4.
